Abstract Forward osmosis is a new approach to achieve a fair separation with the help of osmotic pressure. We would like to develop such an osmosis membrane and test it in process. The student shall experience membrane manufacturing as well as process engineering.

Abstract Organic solvent nanofiltration is a novel approach to purify solvents instead of an energy intense separation process (i.e. distillation). We would like to develop such a solvent stable membrane and test it with our high-pressure crossflow filtration cell. The student shall experience membrane manufacturing as well as process engineering.

Abstract Process control is an essential part of the software that drives our new fast PCR machine. The goal of the controller is to cycle the temperature as fast as possible without loosing accuracy or overshooting/undershooting. This requires a good understanding of the physics and good programming skills in order to implement new control strategies.

Abstract Fast and digital PCR requires accurate optical detection and quick image analyses to monitor the ongoing reaction. The project would focus on improvements in the current setup and developments of better computer algorithms.
Title Solvent recovery system for process off-gas

Abstract We would like to build a prototype of a solvent recovery system for process off-gas. The off-gas contains low amounts of organic solvent. The student shall be involved in the planning and the manufacturing of a first prototype. This prototype shall then be evaluated for solvent removal rate and removal efficiency.
