The University Hospital of Salzburg and the Functional Materials Laboratory (FML) at ETH Zurich have recently started a research collaboration in the field of hospital hygiene. The aim of this partnership is to test the application of silica nanoparticles encapsulating DNA (SPED) in a real hospital environment to investigate pathogen transmission pathways.

Researcher at the ETH’s Functionals Materials Lab and diaxxo AG supported the development of a cartridge-based nucleic acid amplification test for rapid malaria diagnosis and surveillance. This work was recently published in the journal PLOS Global Public Health.  

The 55th edition of the International Chemistry Olympiad is drawing to a close. The event was successfully organised by many volunteers, including FML members.  

This Thursday, 60 students from the Kantonsschule Baden visited the Functional Materials Laboratory.

FML spin-off UniSieve was featured in a Forbes article today. The cleantech company, which provides molecular separation membranes for various applications that will help decarbonise heavy industry, has closed a $5.5 million seed round.
